The numeral indicated by the shadow represents the current time.
Jay Prakash Yantra

The Jay Prakash Yantra is an important astronomical instrument. It is used to measure the positions and movements of the Sun, stars, and planets. The instrument consists of large hemispherical structures with markings that represent the celestial coordinate system. At night, observations are made by aligning stars with the top of the pillar in a straight line.
Digash Yantra

The Digash Yantra is a pillar-like device that helps determine the position of the Sun and the azimuth of celestial bodies in the sky.The word ‘Digansh’ signifies ‘direction’ and ‘degree’. This instrument was constructed between 1724.
